The Future of Robots is Today

Most of us are still of of the mindset that robotics is something that is rather futuristic. We still may have pictures in our head of humanoid robots, flailing their arms and either attacking the Earth from other planets or perhaps protecting us in some way or another. The fact of the matter is, humanoid robots are still very much futuristic but much of the future of robots is already in existence today. Robots are used in a number of different settings that you might find rather interesting. Here is a little bit about the future of robotics and the fact that much of it is already in existence with what we are doing now.

One of the ways in which robots are most often used is in an industrial setting. The automotive industry, for example, makes use of robots on their assembly lines to do a number of different tasks. Unfortunately, this has put many individuals out of a job because the robot was able to do what they used to do on the assembly line more efficiently. Not only that, once the robot is put into place they are able to take care of these repetitive tasks, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

One of the ways in which robotics is used on a regular basis is in spot welding. Although this used to require a human touch, much of the welding that is now done by robots is so accurate and precise that a human could not possibly take care of it in that way. Many times, this welding needs to be done in an assembly line environment so the same simple task is done over and over again. It will be difficult for anybody to improve on what is already existing in these robotics unless they make them less apt to have difficulties from breaking down.

Robots are also able to help us to get out of dangerous situations in many cases. A good example of this is spring painting. Humans used to have to take care of spray painting in the automotive industry and other industrial settings. This put them at risk because they were constantly being exposed to dangerous chemicals, even if they wore protective clothing. A robot is not only able to be in these rooms without having to worry about health concerns, they are able to do the painting more evenly and accurately than their human counterparts.

Finally, robotics are often used in the development and building of computer chips. These chips are often too small for humans to work on themselves so if or not for the robotics that are put to use in these factories, much of the computer science that we have today would not be in existence. Although they will continue to improve on this and other things in the robotics industry, the fact of the matter is that the modern-day use of robotics is already futuristic.

Future Dentistry - Graphene Teeth Coatings For Kids Considered

Due to all the food additives and junk food that Americans eat, our teeth are simply not holding up. Humans are living longer now and their teeth do not seem to last for their natural lifetime. This is getting to be a huge issue and probably means the dentistry industry is a growth industry and a good place to hang ones hat.

Nevertheless, there are some great new technologies on the horizon, namely graphene coatings, which will revolutionize the dentistry industry. How so you ask? Well, first you need to know a little bit about what graphene coatings are. The Foresight Nano-Technology Institute describes Graphene as;

A sheet of sp2-bonded carbon atoms one atom thick-increasingly shows promise for nanotech applications, but ultimately it would be useful to be able to control the edges of the planar sheet to atomic precision. In one step toward the goal of atomically precise graphene nanostructures, researchers have demonstrated atomically precise cuts through a few graphene layers.. .. .."

In theory, the Online Think Tank stated that kids of adolescent age would have their teeth coated with graphene, or perhaps it could wait until age 25 when they were no longer growing. With such a robust coating the teeth would be protected and the enamel would stay intact, no matter what you ate. Including such things as soda, citric acid laced foods and sugar or sugar substitutes. Would anything get through the graphene coatings, asks one skeptic?

Well, it's certainly not likely and that means that these coatings might indeed last you until the rest of your life, so think on that.

Assimilation Machines of the Future

In the future some futurists and Science Fiction Writers have discussed machines that can assimilate anything you want in the physical world from scratch. For instance, the machines would be loaded with the exact replica codes for every single atom and molecule in any "thing" and be able to duplicate it inside of a machine.

Since everything is made up of atoms, each type of atom would be stored separately in the device and pulled out when needed and placed where it was suppose to be. Obviously, it would take an incredible super computer some time to make all this happen, but it is theoretically possible and therefore some day in the future it will indeed be a reality. An assimilation machine you ask?

Yes, an assimilation machine, sure, these will be available someday, in fact, 3D Fax machines and CadCam 3D design software for making prototypes are well on the way. I was at a Trade Show in LA last year and wow the laser cutting systems hooked to a CadCam Program are cool.

So, the next step is merely the manipulation and assimilation, to duplicate, fax or create on the fly, it will be so, perhaps sooner than we know! kind of like the Star Trek meal making machine, whatever you order it makes from scratch for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Literally starting at the atomic level and working forward. Both Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke, two celebrated science fiction authors have discussed these things at length in their novels, and it won't be long now. Think on it.

Interested in Futurist Studies - Think of Future Technologies on and Beyond the Horizon?

The future of technology is something that has always intrigued human societies. Science Fiction writers in the past have often taken a stab at what might be in the future. Some are laughed at, some not, but many are revenged by the exact technologies they described coming into existence, sometimes before their deaths, often much later.

Predicting the future is difficult as generally we use the past as a reference without seeing the convergence of such technologies. The author of the Best Selling book "The Black Swan" seems to challenge the foundation of futurism as silly in that there are events, which will occur that you cannot predict which will change future history, no matter how well you plan or how much you think about it. If you are interested in futurist studies, then may I suggest the following topics to study and consider to help get you going:

  • 3D Holographic Projection and Spectral Imaging (future of living room)
  • Carbon Nano-Tube Car Bodies to save weight boost fuel economy
  • Alternative Energy Concepts; Ocean Waves, Algae Bio Fuels
  • LED lights and Energy Conservation
  • Water Conservation Technologies
  • Video Holographic Cell Phones
  • Voice-Video-Infrared Security Systems
  • Human/Brain Interfaces
  • Life Extension
  • BioTech Disease Innovations
  • Vibrational Energy Medicine
  • Laser Weapons
  • Stealth Aviation Technology
  • E-Government Initiatives
  • Artificial Intelligent CEOs
  • Artificial Intelligent Software Programming Machines
  • Underwater Cavitation Propellers that Oxygenate Dead Zones
  • Asteroid Deflection Strategies
  • Future of Earthquake Predication
  • Hurricane Diversion Technologies
  • Weather Control Exploits
  • RFID Unique Uses
  • Traffic Mitigation Tech
  • Space Energy Schemes
  • Space Colonies on Moon and Mars
  • Mapping Systems for Ocean Floor

One way futurists predict the future is by considering current technologies of today or those that are on the cutting edge and then projecting those out into the future and thinking on what potential applications might solve a pressing issue that plagues mankind. By studying the above technologies and the advances in these sectors about you will have a good basis to predict the future. Please consider this list and enjoy the interesting studies that await.
